Every May 18th, Haiti celebrates Flag Day—a day filled with music, color, pride, and remembrance. At Good Shepherd School, students and teachers came together dressed in the beautiful colors of the Haitian flag to celebrate their nation and its history. Watch the video of students singing and celebrating!
In the middle of difficult circumstances, moments like these matter deeply. They remind students that they belong to a people marked by courage, resilience, and hope.
We asked a few students what Haitian Flag Day means to them. Their words were heartfelt and inspiring.
"Whenever I see the Haitian flag, I am always proud to be Haitian."
“The flag represents the history, unity, and pride of the Haitian people. Every time I look at it, I feel joy because it reminds me of the sacrifices our ancestors made. For me, the flag is a symbol of pride, courage, and hope.” - Picat, student
"May 18th is not just an ordinary date; it is a day that brings great pride to the Haitian people. Every time this date comes, I feel proud and happy because I can celebrate it with love and joy. It reminds me of friendship, unity, and the creation of our flag on the day of our Independence.” - Naika, Student
As we celebrate alongside these students, we were reminded that hope is still alive in Haiti.
Thank you for helping provide a safe place where children can learn, grow in faith, and celebrate the beauty of their culture and identity.
